Most of us deal with cravings especially when we are dieting towards losing weight. The leaner you get the hungrier you become. And I am talking here on experience this will happen to you sooner or later. So I been on those situations where I already ate most of my calories for the day and I am brainstorming what can I do or eat that probably won’t end up on binging more.

So I started looking for some healthy protein snacks for weight loss. Why for weight loss? because of that where you are at the stage of getting these intense cravings because of having to restrict your self to a certain number of calories or way to eat. I have done some research and I am choosing 4 snacks that people consider healthy protein snacks for weight loss.

Beef jerky

This one is kinda obvious because you are directly consuming pretty much protein in between meals just to ease that craving. Remember this will not always be the case the goals is to actually stick with your caloric intake and be really consistent but if the cravings are really bad and you should consider snacking some beef jerky. I will admit this option is kinda expensive depending on where you live on, cause on the local store I have to pay around 5 to 10 dollars just for a bag of beef jerky so seeing that might turn you down but don’t worry there are more options along the way.

Greek yogurt parfait

I am not surprised with this one, talking a bit off topic I saw a documentary of this boxer training for a fight and his coach recommended him greek yogurt in order to be more protein and low carb option especially while dieting. But there is one downside to this one which you gotta create awareness of it that is some of these are loaded with sugar and spiking your sugar intake make even cause you to even crave more resulting in a binge.

Try finding those that are oriented to more naturally like the one that has the amount of fruit on the bottom of the greek yogurt container. If you want to be extremely safe with this one then just buy the plain greek yogurt and customize your self in order to avoid whatever you are trying to not consume it might be carbs or fat.

Hard-boiled eggs

This one is a bit controversial since if you eat the whole egg then it contains this avoidable nutrition content called cholesterol. But the thing is actually this type of cholesterol is healthy that even science proves that its ok for you to consume 3 whole eggs on a daily basis. So yeah this one obviously if you are avoiding fat then simply get rid of the yolk and the white part of it pretty much pure protein.

If I were me I just get some whites out of it and actually its satisfy the craving if it really that bad. Don’t feel ashamed of eating the whole egg but that in considerating is not fat-free but its really good nutritional value for the whole thing its only 76 calories.

Protein bars

Protein bars are really easy to implement on your diet or depending on what type of diet you might start looking which type of brand fits more for your caloric intake. In my case I choose the quest bars so far they are really good having a balance between good taste and low-calorie budget friendly.

I usually finish my dieting day eating my last meal a coffee and one of this bad boys and I gotta tell you it really works in my case it helps against sweet tooth because obviously you been put in a  regimen of eating really clean and watching consistently what type of calories you’re putting on your body.

Trail Mix

This one you gotta be careful with it since I really don’t recommend going to your local store and get a trail mix bag, reason is they are so dense in calories big time, but you can still do your own trail mix which I recommend and divided it into portions that you know it won’t be so caloric dense but its still an easy to make portable snack every now or then.

If you wanna hit protein with nuts a good suggestion is almonds and pistachios, but again with this one moderation is key. I do really remember back in my years of learning dieting I knew always if I bought a huge containers of peanuts that the same day I might chuck the whole thing, so in my opinion even tho it doesn’t have a lot of sugar in it is still calorie dense and can cost you a couple of pounds plus.

Those are couple popular suggestions that I research when it comes to snacking for protein sources, obviously there a lot of variety out there is a huge marketplace for different type of protein snacks and probably a lot of people are looking for alternatives for not ruining their diet and kept that caloric intake in order to see results from a diet plan.

Remember the type of diet its actually not the solution for weight loss but rather the discipline behind any type of diet whether its vegan, keto, if it fit your macros etc. I believe with a strong mindset you will be able to accomplish a lot not just on the health but in other areas of life.

You gotta put up the work I might give you the best suggestion out there or what do I think but as the matter of fact what it counts it is your actions towards the goal. Stay strong delay gratification for a better future. You will see that the struggle was so worth it at the end of the day you have the power to become the best version of your self. It all starts by believing in your self.

  1. You have giving a down to earth , interesting, and precise advice and recommendations for people like myself who are looking to get healthy and lose weight. You are correct that experience means something. Having a plan to deal with hunger is a huge obstacle to overcome and plan for if in your health and wellness journey.

    It can be down right hard. You have giving some advice . Some I never thought of like Beef Jerky. It is a good option. I have to do more personal research. I thought it was not healthy. Could you school me on that?

    The best advice of yours I could use is the yogurt one. Getting some plain Greek yogurt and adding in my own fruit and nuts etc is a great ideal. I never thought of that thanks!

    Trail mix…. I just started using that as a fill in for breakfast and throughout the day. I was wondering why I was not losing weight lolll.Thank you!!! I never thought about the extra calories. I will look into that.

    • There is a misconception of dirty food which I think it’s just not real, the real problem is not having a balance between the so called clean eating and candy or dirty eating, obviously you should aim at least 80% of your intake to ‘ve be as less processed food and more bulk healthier one. Search flexible dieting or IIFYM I also have written article in this site addressing that.

  2. Wow, this is an awesome post. I recently lost some weight but I had to stop eating some of my bests food including snacks like beef jerky and protein bars because I was told it contained sugar and fats that weren’t healthy. Thanks so much for highlighting the fact that its ok to snack on your favorite treats without fear of putting on excess weight.

    • Appreciate the love , I just love blogging about what I am passionate and fitness and nutrition is part of my life. I am in way shape or form the only guru out there but I can help base on my experience. You can balance your favorite food with healthy eating there is nothing wrong with that unless you have an allergy.

This is so true – the only thing that works for me is shifting to protein from carbs, and these are the snacks I go to most often.  I love jerkey and up here in Colorado you can buy it from the mountain stands, so it can save you some $$$$.  I usually stock up there – they make the thicker, chewier kind, rather than the thin, dry kind, so it’s a little easier on the teeth.  I like the greek yogurt and sometimes a good smoothie will do the trick.  I’ve tried a lot of the protein bars, but . . . I just haven’t found one that doesn’t taste like SAWDUST.  Maybe you could recommend the best ones you’ve tried?  I’m tired of shelling out bucks just to throw them away.  LOL.

    • Right now the One brand it’s pretty solid , not all flavor will hit a homerun but I personally like the cinnamon bun bar really hit it for me.

  4. Love jerky,that is my go to mid day snack instead of sugar. It used to be a bag of m and ms I would tell myself they are small so no big deal,boy was I lying to myself. Trail mix is a must have to since I do a lot of hiking. Very grounded advice on some healthy eating choices for all of us.

    • If you crave of sugar just schedule one day that you can give your self a break I think that will ease the stress of being in a strict diet.

    I was wondering if you could help me with a question, involving using peanut butter as a high protein snack. I’ve been advised that it’s an excellent choice for a cardio snack but I am wondering if there is a big difference between organic versions and standard?

    A friend mentioned that there is hardly any sugar added to the more expensive organic version – is this true?

    • Well I guess is kinda true but, in this world that we live today its really hard to dodge artificial stuff, somehow it will always end up in our system , so that is something you gotta experiment with like see if the organic peanut butter will actually help you perform better at your cardio regimen or not. 

  6. I’ve started feeling so much better physically since I have cut down on the carbs that I eat and focused more on getting healthy protein snacks in. My favourite protein snacks are nuts, biltong (beef jerky), seeds and yogurt. 

    I’ve also started having a healthy plant based smoothie every day – I feel awesome. I add peanut butter and almond milk to them which gives me my protein fix. 

    • Cool, but why do you think carbs are a problem? Maybe the quantity but don’t cut the carbs completely after all its our energy source. 

  7. Losing weight is boring and difficult when it comes to follow a healthy diet and say no to spicy juicy mouth licking foods. Thanks for sharing the healthy protein snacks. I love to eat eggs in my breakfast but not always boil them. Is this okay?

    I think trail mix is a good recommendation too as they are good source of protein and other useful supplements.

    • About the egg there is actually no right or wrong way of eating just be conscious about how many calories you are eating and the rest will follow.

  8. Detailed information.  I think the protein bars are a great factors especially for kids and young adults. i personally love the hard boiled eggs. This is something i go with every morning before work and even when i am not at work. 1 or two hard boiled eggs every morning really keeps me on a balance diet. Its a good way to start your morning. This list of choices is very useful for anyone that wants to loose a few pounds by just eating right. working with these choices will help you loose weight without even doing a lot of exercise. and if you are working with a work out plan at the same time this will show a massive result. 

    • You are right Michael, as long as you are consistent during the diet and exercise regimen you will see results but the further you get the more resilient your body becomes at change but that’s even better taste of victory when you actually accomplish the goal that you were looking at. 

  9. Most of us live in the rat race and barely have time for a good breakfast.  This results in buying junk food at some point during the day or not eating at all.  Waiting for dinner!  This drains your energy and result in eating too much when you do get a decent plate of food in front of you. 

    I need my protein and don’t think I will ever be able to become a vegetarian.  Your list of healthy protein snacks has given me a great idea.  I will buy in bulk and divide it into small smash and grab bags.  In the morning I can just grab a bag, add a fruit (fresh or dried) and fresh veggies like carrot sticks and I am set for the day.  I don’t think it will take more than 10 minutes to prepare my snacks for the day, including boiling my egg or two.

    • This is how bodybuilders approach their prep, they cook everything in bulk and have it in containers, depending on what type of job you are , in my case I am blessed to be working in a Mediterranean restaurant.
